あこや真珠貝の内側の色は、美しい虹色をしており、この内側の成分があこや真珠を作っています。この部分は“マザーオブパール“と呼ばれます。つまり真珠とあこや貝の内側は同じ美しさであり貴重なものであるのです。
縄文時代には、このあこや貝の光沢を祭壇に使用した痕跡もあります。太古の人々はこの美しさに神聖さや畏怖の念を真珠と同じように感じたのでしょう。
その感性は今も受け継がれるものだと思います。しかし、この美しさは近年忘れ去られており、破棄される存在になっています。
acoyaはこのさまざまな応用の可能性をもつあこや貝をあこや真珠とともに生かしたいと考えました。これが “Acoya Mother of Pearl”です。このあこや貝の加工は、長崎県大村市にある社会福祉法人パールハイムさんにお願いしています。パールハイムさんは日本で唯一身体に重度の障害を持つ方々が真珠装身具類の細工に携わっていらっしゃっている施設です。 あこや貝の加工にも長けていらっしゃいます。皆さんの生きる喜びにつながるお仕事を一緒に創り、もっと多くの方々にこのパールハイムさんの活動を知って頂きたいと思いお仕事をご一緒しています。
更に、このあこや貝の応用への取り組みは国内だけでなく、国際的な取り組みとして、オランダ在住のクリエーターにもデザインを依頼し作品を作ってもらっています。Acoyaは環境にも、人にも美しい仕事を目指しています。
Acoya Mother of Pearl
The inner surface of Akoya Peal Oyster has a beautiful iridescence color, which makes Akoya pearl as well.It is called the “Mother of Pearl.” In other words, a pearl and the inner surface of Akoya Pearl oyster have the same beauty and value.
Some traces of the Mother of Pearl’s luster were founded in Jomon Era. It is said that people used it as an altar. Ancient people might feel some sanctity and awe of this beauty. I guess this sensibility might have continued in this era as well. However, it was already forgotten in the past recent years. People just threw them away. Acoya was thinking to apply this beauty to make something remarkable, like Akoya pearls. Mother of Pearl is a universal material that can be applied in various fields. This is the “Acoya Mother of Pearl.”
The production process of Akoya oysters is managed by Pearl Heim, a social welfare facility in Omura City, Nagasaki Prefecture.Pearl Heim is the sole facility where heavily disabled people can work on pearl jewelry in Japan. They are skilled in the production process of Akoya oysters.We wish that working together with people in Pearl Heim would bring them joy, and more people would get to know their activities. So, we are working together on various projects related to Akoya Pearl oysters.
Furthermore, the Akoya oyster project is not only carried out domestically but also internationally. Acoya has also commissioned creators living in The Netherlands to create designs.Acoya’s goal is to make beautiful things for both the environment and human beings.
