白魚
“白魚”と名付けた簪。これは、江戸時代に耳かきつきの簪を白魚と呼んだことから名付けた。今は隅田川は汚れがひどくなってしまったが、江戸のころは美しく、海水と河水のまじるところに白魚が住んでいた。半透明で可憐な白魚はちょうど桜の頃に採られていた。春霞の朧月の中、松明の下、白い美しい魚が水面で踊っていたのだろう。遊女たちの白いうなじが朧月の中にかがやいているように。
この白魚のかんざしはその白さを強調するため、シルバーで仕上げた。また、模様は鱗、扇子のような、波の紋様で縁起のいい紋様でもある。それを逆のパターンで表現し、まるで魚の尾鰭のようにもみえる。

White Fish

The name originates from the Edo period when hair sticks with earpicks were called “white fish.”
Today, The Sumida River is now heavily polluted but during that time, the Sumida River was pristine, and white fish thrived in the brackish waters where the sea met the river. The translucent, pretty white fish were caught just around the time of the cherry blossoms. Under the hazy moonlight of spring, they would shimmer on the water’s surface, dancing in the torchlight. The sight was reminiscent of the Tayu’s painted white nape, glowing softly in the misty night.

This white fish hair stick is made of silver to emphasis the whiteness of the fish. Its design features an intricate scale pattern, a fan motif, and an auspicious wave pattern. It is shown in a reverse pattern and looks like the tail of White Fish. *Tayu: elite courtesans
