珪藻、海の小さなヒーロー
さまざまな色形のケシパールたちのブレスレット。海を支える小さなヒーロー、珪藻と名付けた。彼らはガラス質の殻をもち、美しい様々紋様をもつ。見えないものたちが、私たちや、地球上の生命を助けている。

珪藻：
珪藻は植物プランクトンの一種。沿岸で多くの海の生き物、動物プランクトン、魚の食べ物になっていている。しかし、海には毒のある赤潮や貝毒など海の病気を引き起こす悪玉のプランクトンもいて、たくさんの魚や貝が弱ったり死んでしまい全国で大きな問題となっている。ところが珪藻は、栄養分の取り込み方がとてもうまく、悪玉のプランクトンが増えるチャンスをなかなか作らない。つまり、海の病気を防いでいるのだ。

Diatoms- Little Heroes of the Sea
The Bracelet was made of Keshi Pearl in various colors and shapes. I named it Diatom, a little hero supporting the sea. They have a glassy shell with a beautiful variety of patterns. Invisible things help us and other lives on Earth.

Diatom:
Diatoms are one of the kinds of phytoplankton. They are food for many organisms, zooplankton and fish along the coast.However, some bad plankton in the sea causes marine diseases such as poisonous red tides and shellfish poisoning. It causes big problems in Japan because it weakens and kills many fishes and shellfish.
On the bright side, Diatoms are so good at taking nutrients and lessen the opportunities for bad plankton to increase. In other words, they prevent the spread of diseases in the sea.
