真珠の足飾の少女
古代におけるジュエリーの意味にとても興味がわく。縄文時代の埴輪などをみていると、両足に足の飾りがついている。この縄文時代のころの装いにおいてのジュエリーの意味はなんとなく見当がつく。また、親しみを深く感じる。しかしこれが、奈良あたりから全く違うものになる。

後期旧石器時代から１万年以上の歴史があると考えられている。
装身具は、呪術的な意味を持つシンボルとして縄文時代から古墳時代にかけて広く復旧し、指輪、耳飾、腕輪、首飾、足飾など、多種多様な装身具が各地の遺跡より出土している。しかし、奈良時代以降、明治時代に至るまで約1100年間、これらの装身具は忽然と姿を消した。明治以降に海外からの文化移入ということで復活した装身具。日本の近代思想と相まって爆発的な普及を果たし今日に至る。

私はつけなくても事足りる、生活における機能性がないジュエリーを身につけることには、その根源にはおそらく深い意味があるのだろうと感じる。その根源は太古の昔、貨幣経済の始まる前に明確な意味があるだろう。
Acoya 真珠は縄文の頃から存在する。きっとあこや真珠には太古の記憶が残っている。現在は近代の養殖技術による真珠ではあるが、原始的な意味を持つことも可能だと感じている。

私には、かつて太古の人々が自然にもっと近く、ともに生きていた頃、喜びを表現するために踊るときに着けるジュエリーの場所はどこか？と考えた。ジュエリーの持つ意味の大部分が現代は何かのシンボルであり、権威やステイタス、所属を示すものとなっている現在。それらは、リング、ブローチ、ネックレスにあらわれる傾向がある気がする。腕と足首につけるジュエリーには、権力から程遠く、プリミティブな雰囲気が残り好きなのである。

そこで真珠のアンクレットを作ることにした。オランダのフェルメール、Johannes Vermeer の有名なペインティング”真珠の耳飾り” から、”真珠の足飾” と名付けた。

I'm very interested in the meaning of jewelry in ancient times in Japan.
We can see some decorations on both ankles of a human clay form that was created in the Jomon Period. I can vaguely guess why they wore this kind of jewelry in the Jomon period, and I’m familiar with it a lot. However, these habits and looks drastically changed when the Nara period had started.

It is said that Jewelry history in Japan has started from Japan's Upper Paleolithic about one thousand years ago. Jewelry symbolizes a magical factor. There are various types of jewelry such as rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and anklets found on antiquities from the Jomon period to the Tumulus period.But after the Nara period, about 1,100 years until the Meiji period, this jewelry suddenly disappeared. Then, wearing Jewelry had started again in the first part of the Meiji period... the same time Japan was influenced a lot by a foreign culture. Introduced from Europe to Japan, wearing jewelry was revived with modern thought.

I think Jewelry has deep meaning in its origin. Because jewelry doesn't have any functions in humans life, even if we don't wear it, we could still live physically.
Maybe there is a specific meaning of the origin of jewelry. Its reason might be found before the economy was monetized in ancient times.
Acoya pearl has existed since the Jomon period, so I think they might have some memories from ancient times. Even though acoya pearls can be produced by cultivation technology nowadays, I still believe they have some primitive meanings.

When the people closely lived with nature together in ancient times, I wonder which part of the body did people wear jewelry to express happiness while dancing?
Nowadays, jewelry has a kind of symbolic meaning of power, status, and belonging. These jewelries are tend to wear as a ring, brooch,necklace. But for me, I love wearing jewelry on my arms, ankles. Because these body parts are far away from power, primitive feelings still remain.

I decided to create a pearl anklet. I branded it as “The girl with a pearl anklet”, named after “the girl with a pearl earring” by the famous Dutch painter, Johannes Vermeer.
