"美は命より生まれる"
-与那国島の植物で染め織った布とあこや真珠


与那国織は草木染めの糸で織られる織物だ。
一人の女性が全ての工程をひとりでこなす。植物を採取、伐採し、糸を染め、布を織る・・・
このひとりで行う仕事には、その人ならではの色や織がより濃く現れる。

人が布を織る一連の作業は、全くの無からひとつの物語を手に触れることのできる物語に
生み出すことでもある。縦糸と横糸の重なりが布という形を織り成す。
それは体全体のリズム、呼吸、そして心も溶け込み織り上がる。

心に留めた瞬間を、音で形づけるそのリズム、それが布として存在を浮かび上がらせる。
何か目にみえぬひとつの存在（想い）を手探りで丁寧に形にすることだ。
それは、時に限りなく祈りに近く、一つの布が織り上がる。

この布には、草木の命と織る人の想いが重なっている。
あこや真珠も真珠を育てる人と海が重なっている。
この二つの仕事は偶然の連続で、自然に大いに委ね生まれる仕事であるために、
人のコントロールを超えたところにある。
しかし、人の想いがこの偶然をつなぎとめていく。
そして、同じものは二つと存在しない、命としての美が生まれる。

この二つに同じものを感じた。

現代、着物を着る機会が少なくなった中、この美しい布を何か違うものに活かしと考えた。
そこで、洋服でも着物でも持てるクラッチバッグにしたらどうかな、とを考えた。

クラッチバッグは、バッグであるが通常のバッグのような機能性はない。
それはある意味ジュエリーのようでもあり、
その存在の美しさに、所作の美しさを重ねて持つようなバッグだと思っている。
まさにこの布でつくったクラッチバッグとあこや真珠はぴったりだと思った。

kaoriさんにお願いした。

"Beauty is created as a form of life"
-The weaving textile dyeing by plants in Yonaguni island and Acoya

The Yarn used in Yonaguni weaving is plants dye.
A woman works the whole process alone.
Taking plants, pruning trees, dyeing yarn by them, and weaving a textile.
Doing the whole process alone puts emphasis on each weaver's emotion to its textile.

This process of weaving is creating a story that can be tangible out of nothing.
Weaving with wrap and weft creates a shape of textile,
the Rhythm of body, breathing, and one’s heart.

Some sounds are being made from the loom by weaving when she has woven the textile.
It’s like a sign of a moment in which weaver creates something in her mind.
These sounds are rhythm.
Its rhythm creates some existence which is like an embodiment of a textile.
It is like creating some shape by unseen thoughts while groping in a respectful way.
Weaving a piece of textile is like praying. Both need high concentration.

The weaver’s thoughts and the life of plants cross over on this garment and textile.
It's the same as Acoya pearl. A fisherman’s thought and the sea nurtured Acoya oysters.
Both works are like series of coincidences.
We always have to relate to nature, most parts are spontaneous.
It’s beyond human's control.

But human thoughts are tied to these coincidences.
Thus no two things are alike. Beauty is created as a form of life.

I felt the same things between Acoya and weaving textile in Yonaguni.


-A clutch is a kind of jewelry
Nowadays, we don’t have so many chances to wear a Kimono, only a few people wear it.
I wonder if I could create something from this beautiful textile instead of Kimono.
Then I thought it might be special to create a clutch that can be nice with clothes and kimono.

A Clutch is a kind of bag, but it has different functions, unlike a normal bag.
It's like jewelry in its own way. Clutch is beautiful and having this kind of bag symbolizes elegance.
I thought that it will be a very precious clutch if I would use this textile and put Acoya pearl on it.

I made some concepts about it and asked Kaori, an excellent designer, to create a Clutch.
Then, lovely and fantastic Clutches were made.
….I could say that beauty is created as a form of life.
